When Joy Prevails

Four recently graduated artists exhibit their work from a variety of techniques, aesthetics, materials, colours and shapes. The result is a feast of unconventional works that reinforce and challenge each other.

Marian Genet (1990) graduated from HKU, Utrecht and works as a multidisciplinary artist. She makes tapestries, paintings and documentary photography. She transforms the stories of her personal encounters into colourful, tactile and dynamic works.

Johnny Mae Hauser (1997) tries to get a grip on human emotion in her photography. Themes such as introspection, isolation and intimacy are recognizable in this. The soft and sometimes cool use of colour in addition to the anonymous qualities of her visual language result in poetic compositions. Hauser graduated from KABK, The Hague.

Jildau Nijboer (1994) graduated from Academy Minerva and obtained a cum laude Master’s degree at the Frank Mohr Institute. She paints, makes spatial installations and films, and does performances. The end products often combine two-dimensional and spatial works.

Micha Prinsen (1988) combines techniques and materials from the automotive industry with a ‘Do It Yourself’ approach in his work process. He applies adhesive stickers to moulds made of EPS foam and acrylic resin, finished with a high-gloss lacquer. This creates picturesque compositions that play with the border area between mass production and craft. Prinsen graduated from Willem de Kooning Academy, Rotterdam.
