Group Exhibition
A young generation of artists fills the exhibition ‘Next’. Each of them practices a different discipline, namely painting, photography, or ceramics. All three graduated from an art academy in the Netherlands in 2025.
In his paintings, Anthony Chiou (HKU) combines countless images from memories with those from his photo collection. Using flowing brushstrokes with broad and thin brushes, he builds up his canvases layer by layer. They are created in bright, playful colours that remind him of the comfort of his tropical home. The images arise intuitively, growing together organically like a collage between dream and reality.
Florentien Stikkelorum (HKU) creates listening objects. She invites us not only to look at art but also to experience it. Sensory experience is central to her work. The ceramic objects filter and transform the sound of their surroundings into a melodious sense of space. And this, in turn, evokes unexpected experiences.
Inspired by the old painters, photographer Kieke Kurstjens (WDKA) revives herbs or weeds which we previously overlooked. Her still lifes are more than just studies of wild nature; they are monuments of mindfulness, tranquillity, and wonder. The fruit of a small, personal act of resistance to the contemporary fixation on growth, functionality, and the individual. This ode to simplicity stimulates subtle encounters between viewer and environment.
