The inquisitive and traditional way of draftsman Stephan van den Burg bears witness to an enormous urge for innovation. Each time he knows how to put intriguing images on paper, the viewer of which can hardly trace the working process.
Van den Burg, among other things, has developed a technique that leads to very special results. He applies tape to paper, draws on it with a pencil, sticks a new strip of tape over it and pulls it off again. By sticking the second tape elsewhere, a copy of the first lines is created. That can go through a few layers and create a beautiful mosaic. But also coloured pencil and marker are among his simple attributes. Sometimes a template is cut for the found or created pattern, which has been obtained through drawing, cutting, shifting and pasting and which must ultimately end up on paper in colour or black and white. How he deals with material and technology is then not easy to unravel when you look at the end result.
